The show draws inspiration for its name from the 1984 book by John Litweiler: The Freedom Principle: Jazz After 1958, and the 2015 The Freedom Principle: Experiments in Art and Music, 1965 to Now curated by Naomi Beckwith and Dieter Roelstraete. This show is a survey of the African American and Afro-Diaspora avant-garde from the 60s to present day.
